City showed that they were serious contenders for the title with their 1-0 win over Arsenal on Sunday evening. David Silva scored the only goal of the game in the second half, netting after Sergio Aguero’s header after Mario Balotelli’s first time effort had bobbled into his path.

City played some attractive football but also had Joe Hart to thank for some wonderful saves. Makeshift left back Pablo Zabaleta did his job well, neutralizing Arsenal’s pacy winger Theo Walcott.

Stoke did beat Wolves 2-1 last weekend but City will be an altogether different proposition. Nevertheless Tony Pulis’ side have not let themselves be intimidated by big opposition this season and the manager will be hopeful of a good performance from his boys.

Manchester City can give their fans the perfect Christmas gift by beating Stoke at home in a mid-week Premier League clash.

With Man City the better team on paper they are obvious favourites to win this encounter and to keep Liverpool at bay from the final Champion’s League spot. Earlier in the season Man City were held to a draw by Stoke when they played at the Britannia but Mancini will be telling the players that three points are a must for the home team on Tuesday as the securing of the final place in Europe’s top competition is a necessity to attract the top players in the summer transfer window.

Despite winning last time out, the Manchester City hierarchy decided enough was enough with manager Mark Hughes and sacked him just two hours after beating Sunderland at home. Prior to Mark Hughes’ sacking by Manchester City last Saturday, the team hosted Sunderland at the City of Manchester Stadium and eventually secured the three points thanks to a thrilling 4-3 victory. Despite taking an early 2-0 lead in the match, Man City were pegged back by Steve Bruce’s’ Sunderland side, who managed to level things up before the 25th minute. Craig Bellamy ensured City went in at half time enjoying a 3-2 lead but Sunderland again fought back and managed to equalise in the 62nd minute. The lead only lasted seven minutes though because Santa Cruz got what turned out to be the decisive goal giving Mark Hughes what were to turn out to be his last three points in charge of the team.

Tony Pullis took his Stoke City side to Villa Park for a clash with high flying Aston Villa last Saturday afternoon. Despite putting up a great performance, they were eventually outdone by a John Carew goal for Villa in the 61st minute. Stoke now have 21 points from seventeen games played and will be looking for a positive result at Eastland’s.
