Manchester United didn’t have a Premier League game last weekend, due to the FA Cup semi final with Everton. In their last Premier League game they secured a vital 2-1 victory over Sunderland at the Stadium of Light. Paul Scholes and teenager Federico Macheda scored the goals for the Red Devils and Kenwyne Jones scored the only goal for the side from the North East. They also made it through to the semi finals of the Champions League with a 1-0 victory at Porto, thanks to a Cristiano Ronaldo goal.

Midfielder Darren Fletcher is a doubt for this clash, but Sir Alex Ferguson has received the boost of midfielder Anderson, defender Rafael Da Silva and striker Dimitar Berbatov all returning to first team action in the last few weeks.

Portsmouth go into this clash hoping to win three points to take the club clear of the relegation zone. Since the promotion of Paul Hart to manager, Pompey have enjoyed a decent run of form. Before the former Nottingham Forest manager took over the club seemed destined for the Championship, but now they stand a fighting chance of staying up. This however, will be a very tough trip for the side from the South Coast and I’m sure they will be hoping for a good performance.

The Pompey manager will have to check on the fitness of winger Jermaine Pennant who has struggled with a hamstring injury in recent weeks. He has the option of two back up goalkeepers in the shape of fit again Jamie Ashdown and Amir Begovic, with Begovic the favourite to warm the bench.
