United were the only big four team to pick up points last weekend. Wayne Rooney’s opener put the Red Devils ahead but an elementary error from David de Gea allowed Shane Long to put West Brom back on level terms. But United, as it so often happened last season, got out of jail in the dying minutes when Ashley Young’s cross led to a late West Brom own goal.
Tottenham Hotspur will play their first game of the new season on Monday as their opening day fixture against Everton was cancelled owing to uncertainty in London due to the riots. Old Trafford has not been a happy hunting ground for Spurs in the recent past, but they will be hoping to take advantage of United’s inexperience at the back.

Man United had to work hard to beat Stoke City 2-1 last weekend. They took the lead through young Mexican forward Javier Hernandez but Stoke equalised nine minutes from time thanks to a screamer from Sanli Tuncay.
However Hernandez had the last laugh as he side footed home from close range five minutes later to give the Red Devils their first away league win of the season. United have the same number of points as Arsenal but are behind the Gunners on goal difference.
Spurs drew 1-1 with Everton last weekend. A fabulous free kick from Leighton Baines put Everton ahead in the 17th minute but Spurs were back on level terms three minutes later. Alan Hutton’s cross from the right was misjudged by Tim Howard and the ball hit Peter Crouch before bobbling to an unmarked Rafael van der Vaart, who made no mistake from close range.

The European champions know they will need to keep winning if they are going to be successful this season, including beating Spurs in this clash.
