Newcastle had luck going on their side as they managed to hold Manchester United to a 1-1 draw last weekend. Trailing 1-0, the Magpies were given a route into the game by the referee after he ruled that Rio Ferdinand had felled Hatem Ben Arfa, much to the anger of the home supporters.

Newcastle’s top scorer Demba Ba tucked away the resulting penalty by sending David de Gea the wrong way. Jonas Gutierrez was red carded after Ba’s equaliser, thus resulting in a tense last few minutes for Newcastle. However goalkeeper Tim Krul was up to the task as he made a series of excellent saves to keep the game at 1-1.

Chelsea saw off Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-0 last weekend. It was a welcome victory for the Blues after their recent turmoil and star playmaker Juan Mata had a big role to play in the win. Victory for Chelsea will take them above Newcastle in the league standings.

It is the Magpies vs the Blues as Newcastle United host fifth placed Chelsea at St James Park on Saturday.
