Newcastle have been troubled by injuries and have taken only one point from their last four games that has halted their progress in the league. Last weekend, manager Alan Pardew was without the services of Fabricio Coloccini, Mike Williamson and Steven Taylor in defence and saw his makeshift back four struggle as Norwich forwards Grant Holt and Steve Morison had a field day in the air.

Norwich eventually won the fixture 4-2 despite the best efforts of Newcastle’s top scorer Demba Ba, who netted both goals for the Magpies. Swansea are unlikely to pose the same threat Norwich did in the air upfront, but the Swans will not be short on confidence after seeing off Fulham 2-0.

Welsh midfielder Joe Allen is expected to return in midfield after suspension, with Brendan Rodgers likely to put Luke Moore on the bench. Upfront Danny Graham is likely to get the nod ahead of Leroy Lita.

Newcastle will hope to return to winning ways when they host Swansea City at St James Park this weekend in the league.
