Both teams have struggled to win anything of note in recent occasions and not too surprisingly, are occupying relegation zone spots going into this game. More pressure is on Queens Park Rangers manager Mark Hughes, whose reign at Loftus Road got off to a losing start as they went down 1-0 to Newcastle.

Hughes has spoken about the lack of goals from his forwards and must move quickly to rectify the situation if the Hoops are to avoid an immediate return to English football’s second tier.

Wigan, as mentioned above, are bottom of the league, but can move above QPR in the league standings with a win this weekend. Like QPR, they also lost 1-0, with an Edin Dzeko header proving to be their undoing against mighty Manchester City.

Mark Hughes will be hoping to get his maiden win as QPR manager when the Hoops take on Wigan this weekend.

QPR recovered from a disastrous opening day loss against Bolton to post a 1-0 win over Everton at Goodison Park last weekend. Tommy Smith’s well taken curled effort after half an hour proved to be the difference between the two sides at the final whistle.

Wigan drew their second successive Premier League game as their fixture against Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium ended in a 0-0 draw. Despite not having much possession, the Latics struck the woodwork through Jordi Gomez and Victor Moses in the second half and then had a penalty awarded when Gomez was felled by Ashley Williams in the box.

However Swansea’s new Dutch keeper Michel Vorm proved equal to the task as he guessed correctly to deny Ben Watson, who failed to replicate his successful spot kick attempt from last weekend.
