Sunderland were hoping to secure the loan of Joe Hart from Manchester City but are resigned to using 22 year old Simon Mignolet who played well in pre-season. Darren Bent is also injured and unlikely to start after pulling out of England’s friendly against Hungary with a back problem. The Black Cats will be a little disappointed at losing their final warm up game 3-1 against Hoffenheim. Although things are looking up though as will Bolo Zenden and Paulo Da Silva are helping Marcos Angeleri settle in according to the new defender.

Birmingham City players seem to be in much more buoyant spirits even after a 0-1 defeat at the hands of Real Mallorca. Kevin Phillips will be out for a long time after tearing a thigh muscle in last Saturdays friendly. With Stephen Carr and Stuart Parnaby injured, McLeish could play Craig Gardner in defence instead of his usual midfield role as he’s impressed with his versatility. Ben Foster also impressed enough to get an England call up with his home debut as goal keeper. He will likely feature in the the opener on Saturday provided he comes through the England game unscathed.

Birmingham will be making the journey to the Stadium of Light this coming Saturday afternoon for a Premier League fixture against Sunderland. This is an important fixture for both teams and one to watch with us here on oleolefootball.watchlive.net where you know you can always find some great live stream footy action throughout the season.

Premier League Live

Birmingham are eight in the league and still have their eye on a top four spot. They played Everton at the weekend and that ended with two apiece. Birmingham saw goals from Jerome and Gardiner and the team had to fight their way back into the game after finding themselves two behind. This week saw manager Alex McLeish finally admit that his aspiration for this season is to qualify for the Europa League.

Sunderland are fourteenth in the league and still at risk of dropping down next season. They went up against Man City last weekend and that ended with one goal each. The team’s defence came in for some praise from Goalkeeper Craig Gordon this week; he claims that the back four have really found their form. The last time Sunderland went up against Birmingham it ended with a 2-1 defeat so an improved defence will certainly help their prospects.
