Things are looking up for Sunderland after the arrival of Martin O’Neill as manager and the Black Cats will be full of confidence after their last gasp win over QPR on Wednesday night.

The Wearsiders took a 2-0 lead before seeing it wiped out quickly in the second half but Wes Brown’s late goal, his first for the club since his arrival from Man Utd, helped them pick up three precious points.

Everton beat Swansea City 1-0 in their last Premier League game thanks to Leon Osman’s solitary goal. Australian forward Tim Cahill was left on the bench against the Swans but may return to the starting lineup on Boxing Day. The Toffees have an enviable record against the Wearsiders and are unbeaten in fourteen encounters against them.

It is the Black Cats vs the Toffees as Martin O’Neill’s Sunderland and David Moyes’ Everton meet in the Premier League on Boxing Day.

The Black Cats will welcome Everton as they travel to the Stadium of Light for their fourteenth game in the English Premier League 2010/11 season on Sunday. The game will be a tough fixture for both teams as Everton are playing below par lately and will be desperate to buck the trend. That along with Sunderland eager to continue their fine displays should make entertaining football for neutrals and fans. Steve Bruce concentrate on not starting off too confident as he knows Everton and David Moyes’ talent deserve some respect. They should then be able to play with a little freedom when the game has settled and begun to open up. This is when young striker Danny Welbeck seems to be at his best and the Everton defence will have him marked for extra cover. The biggest threat though will come from Gyan who had the Chelsea players in his pocket for parts of the game which they won 3 – 0 last week.

Everton have won just one of their last five games on the road so they wouldn’t call themselves a touring side at the moment. The best bet for Moyes would be to get things tight at the back and make sure they are not going to make the same mistakes as Chelsea. With Tim Cahlll, Arteta and Pienaar all fit there will be a game soon where the toffees demonstrate their ability. It may or may not be against Sunderland this week. See if it is by watching the match live with streaming football from oleolefootball.watchlive.net.

Steve Bruce’s Sunderland side travelled to Manchester City last time out and were unlucky to have just been edged 4-3 in a humdinger of a match. Steve Bruce felt his team deserved more on the day and he was probably correct in his assumption. Nevertheless, the Black Cats lost the game and have now gone five league games without a win. In fact, they have only won one league game from their last nine games and after the great start the side made to the season Steve Bruce will be starting to look over his shoulder at the chasing pack.

Sunderland are now tenth in the Premier League standings, but worryingly for them, Bolton who are in eighteenth and occupy the last relegation spot are only five points behind on sixteen points. This is why Steve Bruce will feel it is imperative that his team return to victories, starting with Saturday’s encounter with the Toffees.

David Moyes takes his Everton side to Sunderland on Saturday on the back of a 1-1 home draw with Birmingham City. Moyes felt his side did enough to merit victory against the in-form Birmingham side. Everton themselves have now gone six games without a Premier League victory and in the last eleven games have only won once. They are now fifteenth in the league table and have eighteen points to their name.

Sunderland go into this game on the back of an awful 3-0 defeat at West Brom, Jonas Olsson, Chris Brunt and Juan Carlos Menseguez scoring the goals. The players have been lamented since the result and manager Ricky Sbragia will be expecting a response in this crucial game. After that defeat Sunderland found themselves just four clear of the relegation zone, with four games left to play. They have suffered a slump in form in recent weeks, losing five out of the last six Premier League games.

The Black Cats will be without defender Nyron Nosworthy for the rest of the season.  Fellow defender George McCartney is also a doubt, with a calf strain. Captain Dean Whitehead could be in the starting line-up after making his return as a substitute in the defeat at West Brom.

Everton visit the Stadium of Light after a 2-1 home defeat to Manchester City, Robinho and Stephen Ireland scoring the goals for City, before Dan Gosling scored a consolation for the Toffee’s. David Moyes side however still look set for a top six finish, for the third time in four seasons. They also have the added bonus of qualifying for Europe already, through the fact that they have made it to the FA Cup final. This is due to FA Cup final opponents Chelsea confirming their place in the Champions League last weekend.

Manager David Moyes suffered an injury last weekend, with influential defender Phil Jagielka picking up a knee injury which will keep him out for up to six months. Nigerian international Joseph Yobo is likely to start alongside Joleon Lescott at heart of the Toffee’s defence in the absence of the England international.
