Sunderland face Hull on an awful run of form which has seen them lose five out of the last six games. In their last outing they were defeated 2-1 by Manchester United at the Stadium of Light. Kenwyne Jones scored the Sunderland goal, with Paul Scholes and Federico Macheda scoring for the European champions. The Mackems need a massive change in fortunes, as they now find themselves just one place and two points above the relegation zone. With Hull just two points above them in the Premier League table it’s even more crucial that the home side claim victory.

Captain Dean Whitehead could return for Sunderland after missing the defeat to United. Full back George McCartney and striker David Healy could also return after missing the last game through calf and groin injuries respectively.

Hull will be looking to bounce back from their 3-1 defeat at Middlesbrough in their last Premier League game. Manucho scored the Tigers only goal of the game, with Tuncay Sanli, Matthew Bates and Marlon King striking for Boro. That defeat was Hull’s fourth game without victory and it’s resulted in the Yorkshire side being just four points clear of the Premier League relegation zone. Phil Browns side really need to get back to winning ways after their recent poor run of form.

Daniel Cousin could return to the Hull squad after missing the last four Premier League games through a back problem and midfielder George Boateng could be in line for a return to the starting eleven. The Dutch star came on as a substitute against former club Middlesbrough in Hull’s last game.
