It was an important win for United, as it ended a two game losing streak. It was also important as the win took United back above Liverpool into top spot in the Premier League. The European champions know that if they keep winning then they will retain their crown as Premier League champions.

Manchester United are currently struggling for first team players with Paul Scholes and Wayne Rooney still suspended. Long term absentees Wes Brown, Rafael Da Silva and Owen Hargreaves will also be missing. Rio Ferdinand is also a doubt after missing the Aston Villa game. Nemanja Vidic should return however after serving his two game ban.
