Sunderland picked up a point against Kenny Dalglish’s Liverpool last weekend. The Wearsiders were clearly the poorer side in the first half and were lucky to be only trailing 1-0 at half time. However their fortunes changed after the break and a wonder goal from young midfielder Seb Larsson on the latter’s league debut in Sunderland colours earned Steve Bruce’s side a point.

Newcastle also drew their opening game of the season against Arsenal. The Gunners, without Samir Nasri and Cesc Fabregas, had plenty of possession but failed to create too many notable opportunities and the match ended in a stalemate, with the talking point being Magpies midfielder Joey Barton’s on the field altercation with Gervinho that resulted in the Ivorian being sent off.

The Black Cats will welcome Newcastle United to the Stadium of Light for their meeting in the English Premier League 2010/11 season on Sunday. The game will be a tough fixture for both teams as Newcastle United are very capable of winning comfortably away from home and Sunderland are also good at home having only lost one Premier League game at home all season. What is good news for the Sunderland side is that Bent is starting to play well again and their top scorer proved that by adding to his tally in the last league game against Blackburn. Gyan came off the bench in that game and it looks like he may have got over his injury especially as he scored within seven minutes of being on the pitch. Having options is not something that Steve Bruce is used to but he has made good use of the players he has had and a concerted push in the second half of the season could see the team rewarded with European football come the summer time.

Newcastle United have lost three of their last five away games but two of those were against Arsenal and Spurs. The fans know that they have to a degree over achieved during their first season back in the premiership so far but that did not stop Houghton getting the boot. New signing Hatem Ben Arfa from Olympique Marseille is a highly rated midfield player and should help improve the squad for the second half of the season. See how they play by watching the match live with streaming football from oleolefootball.watchlive.net.
