Sunderland go into this fixture on the back of a tense FA Cup clash against local rivals Middlesbrough. The game ended in a 1-1 draw, with Fraizer Campbell rounding off a great counter attack in the second half to cancel out Barry Robson’s opener for Boro.

Norwich had no such problems as they beat West Bromwich Albion 2-1, the same result that occurred when the two sides met in the league a few weeks ago. Grant Holt and Simeon Jackson netted for the Canaries on either side of Quinton Fortune’s goal for the Baggies.

Victory for Sunderland will see them climb above Norwich in the league table. The Canaries, currently ninth in the table, have 29 points to Sunderland’s 27 going into the midweek round of fixtures.

Norwich City will look to stay above Sunderland in the Premier League standings when they visit the Stadium of Light to take on the Black Cats on Wednesday.
