The Black Cats drew 0-0 with Fulham last weekend. Fulham put numbers behind the ball and played defensively as Sunderland dominated most aspects of the game. Kieran Richardson and Jack Colback both rattled the woodwork for Sunderland while Stephane Sessegnon came close to snatching a winner with the last kick of the game.

Steve Bruce could take several positives from the game, prominent among them the form of his centre halves and his goalkeeper. A goal would have put the icing on the cake but unfortunately for the Black Cats, it was not to be.

Wigan lead twice against Blackburn Rovers but luck was not on the side of the Latics as they conceded controversial goals and let go of two points instead of emerging with all three.

It is the Black Cats vs the Latics as Sunderland and Wigan Athletic lock horns in the Stadium of Light on Saturday in the league.

Sunderland will welcome Wigan Athletic to the Stadium of Light as the Black Cats look to end their run of nine games without a win. Wigan Athletic are staging a comeback of sorts though, with a win last weekend that lifted them out of the relegation places. Steve Bruce needs to get his side in order or he may find that Sunderland have their own relegation battle to face in the not too distant future. Steve Bruce is without doubt a man under pressure with eight losses and a draw out of their last nine games. The manager will not have been helped last weekend when keeper Simon Mignolet was slow to come for a ball which more or less handed the Birmingham team a goal and piled more misery on the Black Cats. With just five games left in the season there needs to be a last stand for Sunderland and they have to start picking up points especially in front of their own fans.

Wigan Athletic have got over their problem with travelling after beating Blackpool last week and they will try and pull off another coup against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light. Only two places and four points separate the two teams and with the league over in about a month Wigan may have found the fighting spirit just when they need it most. With N’Zogbia and Rodallega linking well again Sunderland will have plenty to worry about on Saturday. See if the Wigan Athletic revival can continue against a struggling Sunderland team with live streams from oleolefootball.watchlive.net.

Sunderland will play at home this coming Saturday afternoon to Wigan Athletic at the Stadium of Light. There are only two points between these two in the middle of the table and it promises to be an interesting encounter. Wigan Athletic is currently fourteenth in the EPL. Prior to meeting Sunderland on Saturday they will first have their FA Cup fourth round clash against Notts County at home in the DW Stadium. Wigan lost at home to Everton on Saturday but it was a close game and they were unlucky to not have at least gotten a point out of the proceedings. Wigan fans are eager for new signing Marcelo Moreno to join the team but the striker is still waiting for his UK visa to be sorted out.

Sunderland will be enjoying the home advantage on Saturday and will be eager to make up from their loss to Wigan when they visited DW Stadium last November. Stoke held them to a draw at the Stadium of Light on Monday night in a match that was lacking in excitement or goal chances. Manager Steve Bruce wasn’t shy about summing up his team’s performance and he commiserated with fans that had to watch it.  New signing Alan Hutton, on loan from Tottenham until the end of the season, could be making his appearance at the Wigan game; should be interesting.

Sunderland host Wigan at the Stadium of Light. These two teams have very different targets even though there is only three points between them Sunderland still need a few more victories to secure their safety and Wigan still have an outside chance of making the European spots. We have all the action live at oleolefootball.watchlive.net.

Due to the league being so close Sunderland are just a few victories away from the European places, yet are just a few defeats away from the relegation zone. They have sold Swedish striker Rade Prica this week, selling him to Rosenborg. Kieran Richardson has said that his side is capable of making Europe despite their close proximity to the relegation zone. Seventh position may prove good enough for a European place.

Craig Gordon could be in line for a first team appearance, after appearing for the reserves during the week. This game could come soon for the Scottish international. Djibril Cisse is set to come up against his cousin Oliver Kapo.

Wigan have enjoyed a good season so far under Steve Bruce. Wigan have an outside chance of finishing in the European spots, but recent inconsistent form has made that look unlikely. They are currently focusing on securing 40 points according to centre back Titus Bramble and another season in the top flight. If they could secure a few more wins, seventh shouldn’t be too far away.

Wigan will be without Lee Cattermole after the midfielder was dismissed in their defeat to West Ham last time out. Wigan may give a debut to new South Korean midfielder Cho Won-Hee. He could take Cattermole’s midfielder position. The rest of the team should remain unchanged from the West Ham game.
