Spurs were denied by a last minute Mario Balotelli penalty as they went down 3-2 to Roberto Mancini’s side in a crunch league clash at Eastlands. On loan striker Emmanuel Adebayor’s absence was sorely felt by the North Londoners, especially in the first half when Jermain Defoe toiled alone upfront, isolated from Spurs’ midfield.

Defoe scored one of Spurs’ goals, capitalizing on a horrendous error from City centre half Stefan Savic, while Gareth Bale curled home Spurs’ second of the game. Defoe also missed a late chance in front of an open goal from yards out that could have given the visitors all three points.

Wigan slumped to a 3-1 loss to Queens Park Rangers in their last game. The Latics are still sitting at the bottom of the league, with Spurs having thrice as many points as Roberto Martinez’s side at this stage of the season.

It is the Lilywhites vs the Latics as Tottenham Hotspur and Wigan Athletic meet in the Premier League on Tuesday evening.
