The Hammers currently lie at the bottom of the Premier League after picking up just six points from their first eight games. Chris Houghton’s Newcastle are only two ahead though, with eight points from as many games.

West Ham drew 1-1 with Wolverhampton Wanderers last Saturday. Goalkeeper Rob Green’s failure to clear Stephen Ward’s cross allowed Matthew Jarvis to put Wolves ahead, but West Ham responded through a Mark Noble penalty earned by Victor Obinna. French forward Frederic Piquionne looked to have won the game for the Hammers with the last kick of the game but his effort was disallowed for handball.

Newcastle came from two goals down to pick up a point against Wigan last weekend. Goals from Shola Amoebi and Fabricio Coloccini, the latter coming in second half injury time, gave the Magpies a 2-2 draw after Charles N’Zogbia’s first half brace had put Wigan 2-0 ahead at the interval.
