West Ham currently sit 8^th in the Premier league, just outside the European places on goal difference. In their last Premier League outing they drew 1-1 at Blackburn, midfielder Mark Noble gave the hammers the lead, before Keith Andrews equalised for Rovers in the second half. That made it four games unbeaten for Gianfranco Zola’s side and they now look good for a top seven finish.

West Ham will be without midfielder Jack Collison, who faces five weeks on the sidelines with a dislocated kneecap and Carlton Cole could also miss the game after pulling out of the England squad through a groin strain. Better news for the hammers is that Cole’s England teammate Matthew Upson and Wales James Collins are expected to return to the Hammers defence, after missing the 1-1 draw at Blackburn, both players appeared for their national teams

Sunderland’s defender George McCartney will serve a suspension, after being dismissed against Manchester City in their last Premier League outing, but Djibril Cisse has given the North East side a boost by reiterating his desire to stay at the Stadium of Light. Ricky Spragia has the dilemma of whether to reinstate Scottish goalkeeper Craig Gordon, the former Hearts player has told media he may quit the club if he doesn’t regain his place in the first team.
