The Reds produced a lethargic performance as they went down 3-1 to Bolton Wanderers in their last game. Sloppy play from Kenny Dalglish’s side allowed Bolton to go 2-0 up within no time thanks to goals from Mark Davies and Nigel Reo Coker.

Jolted by the two goals, Liverpool began to show some fight towards the ending period of the first half and pulled one back when out of form striker Andy Carroll perfectly nodded one into the path of Craig Bellamy, who finished well to beat Trotters keeper Adam Bogdan. However the Reds conceded another in the second half and went on to lose 3-1.

Dalglish blasted the performances of his players after the game, saying it was one of the worst he had seen. Wolves, who themselves lost to Aston Villa 3-2, will be without Karl Henry, who begins his three game ban for an outrageous challenge on Marc Albrighton.

Wolverhampton Wanderers will look to emulate Bolton and beat mighty Liverpool when the two sides meet on Tuesday at Molineux.

This time last year it would have been unthinkable that Liverpool fans would be dreading the trip to Wolverhampton Wanderers but having lost to them in Anfield less than a month ago, and Wolves having beaten Chelsea since, the expectation is not high amongst the travelling Kop faithful. Despite some good results, Mick McCarthys men are still in the relegation places and they need this win as much or if not more than Liverpool. See how they do on Saturday with live streaming from oleolefootball.watchlive.net.

Wolves will be looking forward to playing Liverpool as the Merseyside team have been struggling lately and the cracks are starting to show despite the promotion of Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish to manager. They struggled last week when they played a less than impressive Everton side even after going a goal up. A spell at the beginning of the second half saw Liverpool chasing the game for the rest of the afternoon. One good thing to come for the match was that local boy Jay Spearing played relatively well and that can only be good for the future.

Mick McCarthy must be wondering what he has to do to make it out of the danger area. His players put three past Manchester City last week only to have four goals land in their own net. He will be glad to see the spirit in the camp though as Wolves last two goals were scored when they were four to one down. They will take that fighting spirit on to the pitch at the Molineux this Saturday and should be able to put in a good account of themselves against Liverpool. Mick McCarthy’s Wolves side have lost their last three league encounters without scoring a goal. The first match of this run was actually the reverse fixture with Liverpool at Anfield which they lost 2-0. This rotten run of form has seen them drop back to seventeenth position in the Premier League table with nineteen points to their name.

Wolves have played eleven games at Molineaux so far this season and they have only managed to win three of these. Two more were draws while six ended in defeat. The fact that they have only scored nine times at home all season also reflects their current woes. As a point of interest, Wolves are currently the lowest scorers in the league.

Prior to their game against Liverpool on Tuesday, Wolves have the small matter of an FA Cup fourth round tie to traverse; a home game against Crystal Palace.

For their part, Liverpool seem to be coming into some much needed league form. They have won three and drawn one of their last four league games and they are currently the form side in the Premier League over these four games - a far cry from the dilemmas of just a month or so ago. Benitez’ promise to the Liverpool fans of finishing in the top four looks a far more viable proposition now than it did just before Christmas.
