Premier League Live

The two teams first met this year in the FA Cup, with Stoke edging Wolves 1-0 thanks a goal from German defender Robert Huth. Wolves then made the trip to the Britannia in April looking for revenge, only to be brushed 3-0 as Shawcross, Pennant and Jones combined to help Stoke crush Mick McCarthy’s side.

Stoke claimed the prize scalp of Tottenham Hotspur last weekend. Their strategy of bullying Spurs using set piece situations worked perfectly as Matthew Etherington exploited some atrocious defending to give Stoke a 2-0 lead at half time. Luck was on their side in the second half as they held on to win 2-1.

Wolves were no match for a Manchester United squad seeking to banish the memories of their horror night in Switzerland. The Red Devils put in four past Wolves as Mick McCarthy’s side surrendered meekly.

Stoke will look to claim a third successive win over Wolves when the two sides meet this weekend.

Stoke are now tenth in the league and now seem secure in the premiership for another year. They played Hull City last weekend and were able to take a 2-0 victory with goals from Ricardo Fuller and Liam Lawrence. Manager Tony Pulis was full of praise for his team after the match and claims that it was a well deserved win – he could have a point. It will be interesting to see if Stoke can manage another good performance when they face Wolves.

Wolves continue to do all they can to keep away from the action in the drop zone. They lost 1-0 to Arsenal at the weekend; that manager saw Mick McCarthy seeing red after Karl Henry was sent early to the locker room – McCarthy believes the ref was very unfair. Wolves have to keep on winning to avoid relegation so this match against Stoke should be a good one.
