The Hoops tightened their hold on the SPL by beating Accies 4-0 on Saturday. Greek striker Giorgios Samaras scored twice, with Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink and Aiden McGeady adding the other two.

It was Samaras’ first league goal in three months, while Jan Vennegoor had his first goal since September 2008. Hoops boss Gordon Strachan was very pleased with the result, and praised both the strikers for ending their goal droughts. Samaras now has sixteen goals to his name this season.

Falkirk were beaten 1-0 by Rangers on Sunday. Rangers were without skipper Barry Ferguson and goalkeeper Allan McGregor, and despite putting in an under par performance, Walter Smith’s side still emerged 1-0 winners thanks to an early goal from Kris Boyd.

Falkirk pushed hard in the second half for an equaliser, but Rangers hung on to their 1-0 lead. The Bairns didn’t test Neil Alexander much in the first half, a fact rued by manager John Hughes after the match. Skipper Darren Barr, who missed the Rangers game through suspension, will make a return for the Bairns against Celtic.

It is a tough game for Falkirk- playing both Celtic and Rangers in back to back games is never easy for any team. Falkirk’s last game against Celtic saw the Hoops run out 3-0 winners at Westfield in December. In their last five games against Celtic, Falkirk have managed to score just once.
