Celtic made full use of Rangers abandoned game last weekend by winning themselves and moving four points ahead of their hated rivals, albeit with a game extra. This coming Sunday Tony Mowbray’s team travel to Falkirk looking for another three points that will cement their position at the top of the SPL table. Last weekend Celtic entertained Kilmarnock at Parkhead and duly thumped the Ayrshire team by 3-0. The result was significant in that it silenced a few pundits who were questioning the Hoops recent home form, especially after a recent home defeat in the Europa League almost certainly eliminated them from that competition.

Nevertheless, win they did. And the 60,000 fans at that match went home happy. Scorers for Celtic in that game were McGeady and Samaras in the first half, with the third from McGinn (his first for the club) late on in the second half. Because Rangers match at Dundee United was abandoned at half time due to torrential rain and a waterlogged pitch, the Bhoys found themselves four points ahead of their bitter rivals, albeit with a game more than the Blues.

Before they travel to Falkirk on Sunday, they have the small matter of a trip to Germany on Thursday evening to face Hamburg in the Europa League. Tony Mowbray’s men know that if they lose they will definitely be eliminated from the competition, and to be without European football after Christmas will be considered to be a bit of a disaster to all concerned.

Falkirk host Celtic after coming from a 3-1 defeat at St. Johnstone and are now marooned at the bottom of the table on four points, four points from the second bottom club.
