Former Celtic striker Derek Riordan gave Mixu Paatelainen’s men the lead in the first half with a superb strike to stun the travelling Rangers fans. Riordan had another opportunity to double Hibs’ lead in the second half, but he mis-kicked with the goal at his mercy.

Substitute Nacho Novo finally got the equaliser for Rangers, scoring after Belgian keeper Ma-Kalambay had failed to claim Majid Bougherra’s cross. Novo also had an earlier attempt disallowed by referee Eddie Smith. The ball seemed to have crossed the line before Ross Chisholm cleared it, but the linesman’s flag stayed down.

Celtic’s chances to retaining the SPL are now firmly in their own hands after Rangers dropped points against Hibs. The Bhoys won their league game 2-1 against Dundee United and now lead the SPL on goal difference.

Dutch defender Glenn Loovens gave Celtic the lead at Parkhead in the 22^nd minute by heading home from a Shunsuke Nakamura corner. Greek striker Georgios Samaras doubled Celtic’s lead half an hour later, but United made sure of a tense ending when they pulled one back through David Robertson just five minutes later.
