Falkirk are currently at the bottom of the table, but gave their chances of survival a huge boost when they beat fellow strugglers Inverness Caley Thistle 4-0. The result sees the gap between Inverness and Falkirk drop to a single point, and John Hughes will be urging his boys to continue from where they left against Caley.
Carl Finnigan gave Falkirk the lead in the first half, and Mark Stewart doubled it twenty minutes into the second half. Finnigan was hauled down by Ryan Esson late in the game, and Scott Arfield converted the resulting spot kick to make it 3-0. Finnigan capped a great day by adding a fourth for the Bairns in injury time. Veteran defender Steven Pressley has declared himself fit despite picking up a knock against Inverness.
Rangers were only able to draw against Hearts last week, but were not punished as leaders Celtic failed to pick up all three points in their game too. After the loss in the Co-operative Insurance Cup final, and the draw against Hearts, there is no better time for the Gers to start winning again.
Kyle Lafferty and Barry Ferguson were the scorers for Rangers against Hearts. Walter Smith’s side took a 2-0 lead, but Hearts clawed their way back into the game midway through the second half. Algerian defender Majid Bougherra is likely to return to the Rangers backline after playing the full 90 minutes for his country against Rwanda. However Kyle Lafferty is out for six weeks with ankle ligament damage.
