Milan sealed their first Scudetto since 2004 by drawing 0-0 with AS Roma last weekend. The result confirmed Milan’s league triumph with two games to play thanks to the former’s superior head to head record against second placed Inter.
It was a tale of two halves for Milan, with the Rossoneri having the better of exchanges in the second half after Roma had dominated the first half. The Giallorossi lacked bite in the final third of the pitch in the absence of Simone Perrotta and Daniele de Rossi and AC Milan keeper Christian Abbbiati had a relatively comfortable day in goal.
Cagliari’s poor run of form continued as they crashed to a 2-0 defeat against Cesena last weekend. The result was Cagliari’s third straight league defeat after losses to AC Fiorentina and Catania. Both the goals in Cagliari’s loss to Cesena came in the second half of the fixture, with Luis Jimenez and Dominique Malonga netting for the visitors at Sant’Elia.
Milan however did lose their midweek tie to Palermo, thus sealing the former’s exit from the Italian Cup. Goals from Giulio Migliaccio and Cesare Bovo gave the Sicilians a 2-1 win on the night and a 4-3 win on aggregate over Massimilano Allegri’s side. Swede Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored the only goal of the game for Milan, who also had Mark van Bommel sent off.

Milan are unbeaten in the league since September, and have won four of their last five Serie A games. The Rossoneri’s unbeaten streak has taken some pressure off the shoulders of rookie coach Leonardo. They are now third in the table, with 22 points from twelve games.
Milan beat Lazio 2-1 in Serie A a fortnight ago. Defender Thiago Silva gave Milan the lead by heading in an Andrea Pirlo free kick in the 21st minute. Milan’s second goal was also a headed one as young Alexandre Pato nodded in Ronaldinho’s cross. Lazio pulled one back in the second half through Mauro Zarate’s deflected attempt, but Milan held firm to register a crucial 2-1 win.
Cagliari are just three points behind Milan in the table. The Rossoblu are ninth in the table going into this weekend’s round of action. Massimiliano Allegri’s men have won their last four league games, including impressive wins against Genoa, Lazio and Sampdoria.
Cagliari’s last game was against Sampdoria, and the match was evenly balanced until the dismissal of Samp’s Marius Stankevicius. Cagliari made their one man advantage count when Daniele Conti scored the opener in the 85th minute. Alessandro Matri made sure of all three points by heading in from close range four minutes later.
