Milan picked up their third league win of the season a fortnight ago when they beat Parma 1-0 away from home. A screamer from midfield playmaker Andrea Pirlo, scored in the 25^th minute of the game, proved to be the winner at Stadio Ennio Tardini. It was a stunning effort from Pirlo, even by his own lofty standards, as the ball flew into the top corner of Antonio Mirante’s net from a good 40 metres out.

Parma keeper Mirante was a busy man throughout the game and denied Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic on nearly half a dozen occasions in the first half itself. Ibrahimovic’s partners in crime, Ronaldinho and Robinho, had fewer efforts on goal. It was the first time that Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri had started with the trio upfront this season.

The Rossoneri were fairly comfortable throughout the game barring the last ten odd minutes when Parma laid siege to Christian Abbiati’s goal. Abbiati sustained a groin injury in the game and will be replaced under the sticks by Marco Amelia this weekend.

Chievo, who have enjoyed a great start to Serie A this season, dominated their last fixture against Cagliari, but some wastefulness in front of goal denied the Flying Donkeys all three points in the game. Kevin Constant, Sergio Pellissier and Pablo Granoche all went close for Chievo, who are currently only a point behind Milan in the league standings.

Coach Leonardo also made some questionable tactical decisions; putting skipper Massimo Ambrosini in central defence at half time and playing Marek Jankulovski at left back Upfront, Marco Borriello and Klaas Jan Huntelaar were toothless.

Chievo’s March started on a losing note as they went down 1-0 to Bari. Jose Ignacio Castillo’s 20^th minute strike proved to be the difference between the two sides. Bari could also afford the luxury of a late penalty miss from Massimo Donati.
