Milan comfortably beat Bologna 3-0 last weekend to extend their lead at the top of the table to six points. The Rossoneri took the lead in the 9th minute when midfielder Kevin Prince Boateng poked in Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s cross from close range.

Milan doubled their advantage through Brazilian forward Robinho in the 35th minute. The former Man City star collected Boateng’s pass and used his pace to get the better of opposition defender Andrea Esposito before slotting home. Milan’s victory was confirmed when midfielder Andrea Pirlo split open the Bologna defence on the hour mark to find Ibrahimovic, who made no mistake.

Roma also won their weekend fixture, albeit by a smaller margin. The Giallorossi beat Bari 1-0 to pick up their seventh league victory of the season. The winning goal came in the 30th minute from defender Juan, who slid in Francesco Totti’s free kick from close range. Totti earlier had a penalty saved by Bari stopper Jean Franco is Gillet.

Roma’s last trip to the San Siro ended in a 2-1 victory for Milan. The visitors took the lead early in the game through Jeremy Menez but second half strikes from Alexandre Pato and Ronaldinho gave Milan a comeback victory. The Rossoneri however did endure some anxious moments in the end after having Massimo Ambrosini sent off ten minutes from time.

Milan’s title ambitions were ended last week in Udine as Udinese beat them 2-1. Gaetano D’Agostino gave the hosts the lead from the spot, and defender Christian Zapata doubled it three minutes into the second half. Midfielder Massimo Ambrosini did however manage to pull one back for Milan late in the game.

David Beckham is once again available for selection after being suspended for the last game. So is defender Giuseppe Favalli. Veteran defender Paolo Maldini will play his last game in front of the San Siro faithful- he is due to retire at the end of this season.

AS Roma have been terribly inconsistent this season, and although they do hold the last Europa League spot, a loss to Milan combined with wins for either Palermo or Udinese could see them move out of the European places this weekend. The Giallorossi have conceded a whopping 36 goals on the road- more than any team in the Serie A this season.

Roma beat Catania in a seven goal thriller last week. A late goal from Christian Panucci gave them the win after Catania had come back from two goals down. Simone Perrotta netted a brace, with Mirko Vucinic scoring the other goal. Goalkeeper Doni, Julio Baptista and Juan are injured, while influential midfielder Daniele De Rossi is suspended.

The previous game between the two sides was a hugely entertaining clash that ended in a 2-2 draw. David Beckham made his debut for Milan in that game. Luciano Spaletti will hope that his leaky defence performs well when they travel to the San Siro to take on AC Milan this weekend. AC Milan can assure themselves of a runners up spot in this season’s Serie A if they draw or win against Roma on Sunday.
