Samp are in real danger of being relegated after picking up just a single win from their last fourteen games. The Blucerchiati are only a single point above the relegation zone, languishing in sixteenth place with 32 points from as many games.
Alberto Cavasin’s men were shocked 2-1 by Lecce last weekend. The Apulians went 2-0 ahead at Luigi Ferraris thanks to goals in either half from David di Michele and Ruben Olivera. Massimo Maccarone’s goal gave Sampdoria a glimmer of hope, but Daniele Mannini’s dismissal and some excellent keeping from Lecce No.1 Antonio Rosati ensured that the Blucerchiati would not pick up any points from the game.
AC Milan beat Fiorentina 2-1 away from home last weekend. Dutch veteran Clarence Seedorf, deputising as skipper for Gennaro Gattuso, put the Rossoneri ahead with an exquisite volley in the 8th minute of the game. Four minutes before the interval, Milan doubled their advantage through Alexandre Pato as the Brazilian converted from close range after Kevin Prince Boateng and Ibrahimovic had combined to set him up.
Juan Vargas pulled one back for Fiorentina, who went a man ahead when Ibrahimovic was sent off three minutes from time for Milan. However the Rossoneri hung on to stay three points ahead of second placed Napoli in the table. The lanky Swedish striker is therefore suspended for this weekend’s fixture against Sampdoria.

Milan recorded their fourth straight league win last Sunday thanks to Klaas Jan Huntelaar’s super sub act. The Dutch striker came off the bench and netted twice in second half injury time to give the Rossoneri three points against a stubborn Catania side.
Huntelaar’s first goal could be considered somewhat fortunate, but the second was a delicate little chip that spoke volumes about the former Ajax hitman’s ability. The goals were also Huntelaar’s first and second for the Rossoneri. Milan thus moved above Juventus in the table, and are now seven points behind city rivals and leaders Internazionale. Playmaker Andrea Pirlo is available for selection after missing the Catania game through suspension.
Sampdoria lost out on the opportunity to move level on points with Juventus as they were beaten 3-0 by local rivals Genoa in the Derby della Lanterna. Samp went behind when Rete Ziegler was adjudged to have fouled Rodrigo Palacio in the box, allowing Omar Milanetto to do the job from twelve yards out.
Genoa doubled their lead in the 53rd minute, and made it 3-0 from the spot through Raffaele Palladino with a quarter of an hour left on the clock. Rete Ziegler was again the culprit for Sampdoria, fouling Sokratis Papastathopoulos. Defenders Marco Rossi and Fabrizio Cacciatore were sent off the Blucerchiati, and will miss the trip to Milan this weekend.
A brace from Ronaldinho allowed Milan to beat Samp the last time the Blucerchiati visited the San Siro. The Brazilian is in great form at this moment, and will be keen to help Milan beat Luigi Del Neri’s men again. Sign up with Ole Ole Football and watch live streaming of Milan vs Sampdoria.
