Inter successfully defended the Scudetto last season and completed a rare treble by winning the Italian Cup and UEFA Champions League too. The Nerazzurri also had a dream start to the 10/11 season as they won the Italian Supercoppa by defeating arch rivals AS Roma.
Roma dominated long periods of the Supercoppa game before eventually slumping to a 3-1 defeat. Mirko Vucinic’s poor back pass that gifted Goran Pandev the equaliser after John Arne Riise had netted the opener for Roma, was probably the turning point of the game. Cameroon skipper Samuel Eto’o then scored a brace in the second half as Inter beat the Giallorossi 3-1.
Inter have a new coach in the form of Rafa Benitez, who has replaced Madrid bound Jose Mourinho. Exciting youngster Mario Balotelli has left for Manchester City. Inter will be without the injured Thiago Motta for this clash.
Bologna finished 17th in Serie A last season. They ended up with 42 points from 38 fixtures, seven more than third from bottom Atalanta. The club recently passed into new hands; the Menarini family sold it to Sardinian enterpreneur Sergio Porcedda. The Rossoblu are captained by veteran striker Marco di Vaio, of Juventus and Parma fame.

Colombo’s maiden game in charge of Bologna saw them being destroyed 4-1 by Sampdoria, but he has slowly but steadily started to turn things around.
The loss to Sampdoria was followed by a 2-1 win over Siena. A loss to AS Roma followed, but Bologna were certainly not outplayed in that game. As mentioned before, they stunned Walter Zenga’s Palermo 3-1 last week. Uruguayan striker Marcelo Zalayeta netted a brace for the Rossoblu, with Marco Di Vaio scoring the third.
Inter drew 1-1 with AS Roma a fortnight ago. The result reduced Inter’s lead at the top of the table, but they still have a very healthy five point advantage over second placed Juventus.
Mirko Vucinic’s 13th minute header put Roma ahead at the San Siro, but Inter responded through Samuel Eto’o in the 48th minute. Diego Milito thought he had grabbed a stoppage time winner for Inter, but the goal was disallowed for offside.
