Roma could have risen to third in the league had they beaten Palermo last weekend. Instead the Giallorossi ended up losing the fixture 3-1. Palermo skipper Fabrizio Miccoli put his side ahead in the 20th minute and two second half goals in quick succession from Josip Ilicic and Antonio Nocerino sealed Roma’s fate. The Giallorossi did manage to grab a consolation goal in the dying minutes through talismanic forward Francesco Totti.
Roma are now seventh in the table with 22 points, while Chievo are three places behind in tenth. The Flying Donkeys however do have a game in hand as their match last weekend at the Dall'Ara stadium against Bologna was postponed due to heavy snowfall. Chievo’s last league game was therefore their famous 2-1 win over defending champions Inter Milan.
Chievo have never beaten Roma at home in the last decade. The men from the Eternal City have won four of those fixtures, while four games have ended in draws. Roma’s last trip to Stadio Marc'Antonio Bentegodi ended in a 2-0 win for the visitors thanks to two late first half goals from Mirko Vucinic and Daniele de Rossi.

Chievo were up against defending champions Inter Milan last weekend. The Flying Donkeys took the lead through Thiago Motta’s own goal but could only sit and watch after that as Inter raced to a 4-1 lead. Strikes from Pablo Granoche and the prolific Sergio Pellissier reduced the arrears but Chievo couldn’t quite complete their fairytale comeback as they failed to get a fourth goal.
Roma left it late to beat Cagliari last weekend. The Giallorossi had Francesco Totti to thank for the narrow win after Andrea Lazzari had put Cagliari ahead in the 73rd minute. Totti restored parity six minutes later and then scored the winner from the spot after Davide Biondini was penalised for handball. Norwegian defender John Arne Riise is suspended for this clash.
