Serie A Live

Genoa won their home fixtures against Milan in both the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons. In September 2008, a first half goal from Giuseppe Sculli, along with a late penalty from Diego Milito, gave Genoa a 2-0 win over the Rossoneri. Sculli also scored at Stadio Luigi Ferraris in the fixture in May last year that Genoa won 1-0. Milan ended that encounter with ten men following the dismissal of Mathieu Flamini five minutes from time.

However Genoa’s recent form has not been very good, which is why Milan will definitely fancy their chances of ending their two game losing run at Luigi Ferraris. The Rossoblu have won only once in their last eight competitive fixtures and are a whopping ten points behind Palermo, who currently occupy the last European spot.

Genoa went down 1-0 to Fiorentina on Wednesday night. Argentine winger Mario Santana scored the winning goal of the game for La Viola five minutes before half time. Fiorentina’s Polish keeper Artur Boruc was in great form from his side as he produced excellent saves to deny Antonio Floro Flores and Domenico Criscito in the first half.

Milan drew 0-0 with Lazio on Tuesday night. The Rossoneri kept the Lazio defence busy.as they created several scoring opportunities. Striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic went the closest to breaking the deadlock with his 51st minute effort that rattled the frame of Fernando Muslera’s goal not once, but twice. After twenty three rounds of fixtures, Milan currently hold a five point advantage over second placed Napoli.

The manager has had a tough time of it so far and has failed to get the best out of players like of Robinho, Ronaldinho and Ibrahimovic. Serial pouter Robinho is a massive confidence player and he will need to play regularly and win games for the fans to see his best. With the league results so far being inconsistent the Brazilian is the kind of player that could cause unrest in the dressing room. Now that Pato is injured, it looks like Robinho could get to start at the weekend.

Genoa’s May began just as April had ended- with a loss. The Rossoblu were beaten 3-0 by Bari away from home. The result also ended the club’s slim hopes of qualifying for continental football via the Europa League. Genoa coach Gian Piero Gasperini was sent off during the Bari fixture and will have to watch the last two games of his side from the stands.

Milan, on the other hand, went a step closer to automatic Champions League qualification last weekend as they overcame Fiorentina 1-0. Brazilian playmaker Ronaldinho tucked away the winner from the spot on 78 minutes after Danish defender Per Koldrup had fouled striker Marco Borriello. The Rossoneri ended the game with ten men after Massimo Ambrosini received his marching orders from the referee three minutes from time.
