Inter slipped to third position in the league as a result of their draw against Sampdoria at home last weekend. It could have been worse for the Nerazzurri had Cameroon international Samuel Eto’o not been able to equalise for them.

Sampdoria took the lead through Stefano Guberti shortly after the hour mark. Guberti’s volley found it way into the back of Julio Cesar’s net after some good work from Blucerchiati forward Antonio Cassano down the right wing. Inter equalised eighteen minutes later when Eto’o slotted in Philippe Coutinho’s cross from close range.

Genoa beat Catania 1-0 last weekend. The Ligurian side took the lead midway through the second half thanks to a strike from skipper Marco Rossi. Genoa are currently four points behind Inter in the points table.

Genoa beat Bologna 3-1 in their last game before the break. It was an important win for Gian Piero Gasperini’s men after their 3-2 loss in Europe to Valencia a few days before. The home side took the lead in the 11^th minute through Houssine Kharja. Kharja sent Emiliano Viviano the wrong way after Sergio Floccari had been fouled in the box.

A brilliant move down the left flank culminated in Alberto Sculli scoring the second for Genoa in the 35^th minute. Genoa were reduced to ten men when Giandomenico Mesto received his marching orders early in the second half, and that pushed them on the backfoot. Bologna pulled one back from the spot through Marco di Vaio but Genoa sealed victory when Alberto Zapater scored their third in the dying minutes of the game. The goal was created by Nenad Tomovic, who was responsible for giving away the penalty that Di Vaio had scored.

A late goal from Wesley Sneijder allowed Inter to beat Udinese 2-1 in their last match. Samuel Eto’o set up Dejan Stankovic for Inter’s opener on 22 minutes, but Udinese were back on level terms five minutes later through captain Antonio Di Natale.

However Sneijder drilled in a low shot into the bottom corner of Handovic’s goal in the third minute of injury time to break Udinese hearts and give Inter their fifth win of the 2009-10 season. Veteran defender Marco Materazzi has announced himself fit for this fixture after having recovered from his thigh injury.
