Genoa have won their last two games against Bologna and Cagliari, both by a 1-0 scoreline. Omar Milanetto netted for the Rossoblu against Bologna while Andrea Ranocchia was the scorer against Cagliari.
Both Milanetto and Ranocchia’s goals came in the second half. In their last seven games in all competitions, Genoa have only scored in the second half. They are currently ninth in the table with 17 points, three behind Juventus, who occupy fourth place with 20 points from 12 games.
Juventus drew 1-1 with AS Roma in a hugely entertaining game last weekend. The Bianconeri went ahead in the 25th minute after former Roma midfielder Alberto Aquilani had set up Vincenzo Iaquinta but Roma equalised in first half stoppage time through a Francesco Totti penalty.
Aquilani and defender Giorgio Chiellini were the standout players for Juve, who really did not look as they would concede despite their opponents enjoying nearly two thirds of possession. Felipe Melo will be aiming for a better showing after a distinctly average performance against Roma.
Genoa have scored at least two goals in each of their last three meetings against Juventus. When the two sides clashed at Luigi Ferraris last season, the result was a high scoring draw. Juventus took the lead through Vincenzo Iaquinta, but goals from Giandomenico Mesto and Hernan Crespo allowed Genoa to surge ahead. However French striker David Trezeguet’s late equaliser allowed Juventus to come back to Turin with a point.

Juventus slipped up last week, only managing to draw against Chievo Verona. Juve went behind twice in the game, but Vincenzo Iaquinta’s 79th minute strike seemed to have sealed a hard fought victory for them. However Sergio Pellissier had other ideas, and he scored a late equaliser to break Juve hearts. The game ended at 3-3, with Pellissier scoring a hat trick for Chievo.
Juventus are now nine points behind Jose Mourinho’s Inter, and it won’t be easy for them against Genoa, who currently occupy the last Champions League spot. Many Juve players agree that the battle for the title race is as good as over, but there is still a faint glimmer of hope that they could overtake Inter.
Genoa have surpassed all expectations this season. Gian Piero Gasperini’s side are ahead of both Fiorentina and Roma at the moment, and are fourth with 52 points. They beat Reggina 1-0 last week, with substitute Thiago Motta scoring the only goal of the game.
Genoa have a very impressive home record. They have won nine, drawn four and lost just one at the Luigi Ferraris this season. League leaders Inter are the only team to have beaten Genoa in their own backyard, winning 2-0 last month.
Genoa will however have to play this game without star forward Diego Milito, who was injured while on international duty with Argentina. Juve thrashed Genoa 4-1 in November last year. What will be the outcome this time? Watch Genoa v Juventus live to find out. Sign up today to watch live Serie A.
