Milan took advantage of Lazio’s shock defeat to Cesena as they replaced the Biancocelesti as Serie A leaders on Wednesday night. The Rossoneri beat Palermo 3-1 at home thanks to goals from their striking triumvirate of Alexandre Pato, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Ronaldinho.

Pato opened the scoring when he nodded in a corner from Clarence Seedorf in the 19^th minute. Palermo equalised shortly after the hour mark but Milan went ahead from the spot through Ibrahimovic after Massimo Ambrosini had been fouled by Palermo keeper Salvatore Sirigu. Ibrahimovic then set up Ronaldinho minutes later for Milan’s third as the Rossoneri picked up their seventh league win of the season.

Inter drew 1-1 with lowly Brescia away from home as their winless run in November continued. The Nerazzurri went ahead through striker Diego Milito in the 76^th minute. The Argentine prodded home from close range after Samuel Eto’o had weaved his way past the Lecce defence and crossed the ball into his path.

However Inter’s lead lasted all of three minutes as Ruben Olivera headed in a corner from Davide di Michele to equalise for Lecce. The result saw Inter drop to fourth in the table, three points behind new leaders Milan going into this weekend’s fixture.

Inter’s game against Bari was goalless till the hour mark and then produced fifteen minutes of action that saw two goals being scored by either side. The Apulian side took the lead when Paulo Vito Barretto scored from the spot after Inter’s Walter Samuel had been penalised for handball.

Three minutes later, it was the turn of Samuel’s defensive partner Lucio to give away a penalty and Barretto again converted to make it 2-0 to Bari. Winter signing Goran Pandev pulled one back for Inter in the 69^th minute and the Nerazzurri’s comeback was complete five minutes later when Leonardo Bonucci brought Pandev down in the area. Pandev’s strike partner Diego Milito sent Bari keeper Jean Francois Gillett the wrong way to equalise for Inter.

Milan crushed Siena 4-0 last weekend to reduce Inter’s lead to six points. Playmaker Ronaldinho scored a hat trick, including a first half penalty as the Rossoneri dominated against Robur.  Striker Marco Borriello scored the other goal of the game for Leonardo’s men.

Young Alexandre Pato has been ruled out of this derby with a thigh injury. In Pato’s absence, coach Leonardo is likely to continue playing three upfront, with David Beckham supporting Borriello and Ronaldinho. Defensive stalwart Alessandro Nesta is also a doubt. However captain Massimo Ambrosini is available for selection after serving a one match ban.
