The Nerazzurri proved their European credentials with a fine win over Barcelona in the first leg on Tuesday night. Unlike Arsenal, who looked at sixes and sevens when Barcelona played against them in the last eight, Inter had a game plan ready and stuck to it.

Goals from Dutch playmaker Wesley Sneijder, Brazilian fullback Maicon and the prolific Diego Milito gave the Beneamata a 3-1 lead to take into the second leg at the Nou Camp after Pedro’s 19th minute strike had put Barca ahead.

Atalanta did their hopes of survival no harm with a 2-1 win over Fiorentina last weekend. Goals in either half from Adriano Ferreira Pinto and Simone Tirribocchi gave the Orobici three vital points in their quest to remain in Serie A.

Inter suffered only their fourth defeat in the Serie A this season as they lost 2-1 to Cagliari last weekend. Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic gave Inter the lead in the 8th minute, only for Andrea Cossu to equalise in the 34th minute. Roberto Acquafresca then scored the winner against his parent club, heading home from Davide Biondini’s cross twenty minutes from time.

Inter boss Jose Mourinho has put pen to paper a new deal that will see him stay at the San Siro till June 2012. Although the league has already been won, the Special One would like his players to end their season on a winning note. This clash could well be Julio Cruz’s last in a Nerazzurri shirt, and the Argentine hitman will be hoping for a goal or two against Atalanta.

Atalanta are sitting in 11th place with 47 points to show for their efforts so far. The Orobici could end this season in the top half of the table if they beat Inter and Lazio lose to Juventus. Lazio are three points ahead of Atalanta, but have an inferior goal difference.

Atalanta destroyed Palermo’s hopes of qualifying for Europe as they drew 2-2 against the Sicilian outfit last week. Davide Succi’s strike separated the two sides at the lemon break, but a brace from Gianvito Plasmati swung the game Atalanta’s way. Fabrizio Miccoli did however manage to rescue a point for Palermo towards the end.

Atalanta stunned Inter 3-1 when the two sides met in January. Cristiano Doni scored twice in that game. Will Inter take revenge for that defeat this weekend? Watch Inter Milan v Atalanta live to find out. Atalanta could do the double over Serie A winners Inter if they beat Jose Mourinho’s side at the San Siro this weekend.
