Fiorentina routed Champions League hopefuls Udinese at Stadio Friuli last weekend. Juan Vargas, a reported summer target for both Man City and Zenit, set things rolling in the 9th minute. Gaetano Agostino and Alessio Cerci then scored two goals each as the Viola emerged worth winners at the final whistle. The win for Fiorentina was Udinese’s fourth Serie A defeat in five games.
Fiorentina are currently coached by former Inter player Sinisa Mihajlovic. The Viola are twenty points behind Inter in the league standings, having collected 49 points from their campaign so far.

Inter beat Bologna 3-1 last weekend to pick up their tenth win in thirteen Serie A games. However Brazilian full back Maicon was sent off in the dying minutes of the game, and was awarded a two match suspension for allegedly abusing the linesman. The ban will keep Maicon out of the Fiorentina game, as well as the big one against Juventus.
Fiorentina beat Olympique Lyonnais 1-0 in Italy to qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League for the first time in a decade. Juan Vargas scored the winner from the spot after Aly Cissokho’s foul on Marco Marchionni. La Viola’s victory also eliminated five time champions Liverpool.
Cesare Prandelli’s men lost to Parma 3-2 last weekend despite the best efforts of Alberto Gilardino, who scored both of Fiorentina’s goals. Midfielder Marco Donadel saw red in that game, and is therefore suspended for the trip to Milan.

Fiorentina have had a slightly bad run of late. They went out of the UEFA Cup, drew against Reggina and lost to Palermo. Adrian Mutu, Alberto Gilardino and co. will have to come good if Fiorentina are to trouble Inter.
Mourinho will expect nothing less than a win from his boys after the exit from the Champions League.
