Inter moved into second place last weekend by beating Sampdoria 2-0 away from home. Wesley Sneijder and Samuel Eto’o netted the goals for the Nerazzurri in the second half. Holland midfielder Sneijder curled in a stunning free kick on 73 minutes to put Leonardo’s side ahead. Inter’s second goal was scored by Cameroon striker Eto’o in second half stoppage time.

Eto’o collected a long pass from Serbian stalwart Dejan Stankovic and showed great control inside the box to beat Gianluca Curci at his near post. Inter now have 53 points from 27 games, a point more than Napoli, who lost to league leaders Milan last Monday.

Genoa went down 2-1 to Catania in an ill-tempered game last weekend.  The Rossoblu went ahead through Antonio Floro Flores in the 19^th minute but Catania hit back through Maxi Lopez and Gonzalo Bergessio to go 2-1 ahead. Genoa were then reduced to ten men when Domenico Criscito was harshly sent off midway through the second half. The visitors had a chance to get back into the game fifteen minutes from time, but Miguel Veloso fluffed his lines from the penalty spot as Catania held on for all three points. Veloso, along with Criscito and Flores, is suspended for Genoa’s trip to the San Siro this weekend.

The Nerazzurri had to survive some anxious moments before beating Udinese last weekend. Udinese took an early lead through Simone Pepe, but Inter hit back through goals from Mario Balotelli, Maicon and Diego Milito. Antonio Di Natale pulled one back from the spot in the second half for Udinese, setting up a tense last half hour, but Inter managed to hold on to their lead.

Like Inter, Genoa also scored thrice last weekend but were unable to emerge winners. Bologna came from behind thrice to record a famous 4-3 win over the Rossoblu. Honduran international David Suazo scored a first half brace, with Giuseppe Sculli scoring the other goal for Gian Piero Gasperini’s side. Despite the loss, the Ligurians are still well placed to grab one of Italy’s European spots.
