Inter continued their resurgence under manager Leonardo as they beat last season’s runners up AS Roma 5-3 in Serie A last Sunday. The Nerazzurri were leading 4-1 at one stage but had to endure a tense last few minutes after ten man Roma managed to pull two goals back. Argentine midfielder Esteban Cambiasso however settled the fixture with his close range effort in the last minute.
Dutch playmaker Wesley Sneijder, making his first start for Inter since early December, was a key figure in midfield for the Nerazzurri. The former Ajax and Real Madrid star opened the scoring after just two minutes with a fine effort from 20 yards out. Despite conceding thrice, Inter keeper Julio Cesar was another standout player as he saved brilliantly from Jeremy Menez and Marco Borriello to keep his side ahead in the opening period of the game.
Juventus ended their four game winless run in all competitions with a 3-1 victory over Cagliari last weekend. Striker Alessandro Matri came to haunt his former employers as he scored twice for Juventus. Luca Toni scored the other goal of the evening for Juve.
Inter are unbeaten in their last three fixtures against Juventus. The last meeting between the two sides ended in a goalless stalemate, with Inter winning the previous encounters 2-0 and 2-1 respectively. Cameroon striker Samuel Eto’o, who netted a brace against AS Roma, will be keen to continue his great run of form against the Bianconeri.
