Napoli were beaten 3-1 by defending champions Inter Milan on Thursday. The result saw the Partenopei concede second spot in the league table to Lazio. Napoli’s only goal of the game against Inter came through Michele Pazienza in the 25th minute. Pazienza took advantage of some sloppy Inter defending to head in Ezequiel Lavezzi’s corner.
Juventus were thrashed 4-1 by Parma in Serie A on Thursday. It was a nightmare start to 2011 for the Bianconeri, who finished the fixture with ten men following the early dismissal of Felipe Melo. The Brazilian midfielder, known for his short temper, was sent off for kicking out at Parma defender Massimo Paci and will serve the first of his three match ban this weekend.
Parma went 2-0 up thanks to a brace from winger Sebastian Giovinco, on loan at the Gialloblu from Juventus. Nicola Legrottaglie pulled one back for Juventus when he nodded in a corner from Alberto Aquilani but goals for Hernan Crespo and Rafael Palladino ensured that there was to be no comeback for the Bianconeri in Turin.
Napoli have won their last three meetings at home against Juventus. Second half goals from Marek Hamsik, Ezequiel Lavezzi and Fabio Quaglirella saw the Partenopei emerge 3-1 winners the last time the two sides met in Naples. Hamsik in particular seems to enjoy playing against Juventus, having netted at least a single goal on the last three occasions Napoli have scored against Juventus.

Juve, who were beaten 4-1 by Fulham in the Europa League last Thursday, lost 1-0 to fellow European aspirants Sampdoria on Sunday. Samp forward Antonio Cassano lashed home the winner from 30 yards out in the 76th minute. Juventus keeper Antonio Chimenti got a hand to the strike, could not stop it from going into the net. With the result, Juve have now fallen to sixth in the league, and are in danger of being overtaken by other teams if they do not pull up their socks soon.
Napoli held AC Milan to a 1-1 draw on Sunday. The Partenopei took the lead in the 13th minute through Hugo Campagnaro. The Argentine had to simply slot into an empty goal after Milan’s defenders went after Ezequiel Lavezzi at the near post and left him completely unmarked. Milan equalised when Ronaldinho’s perfect cross from the touchline was headed in from close range by Pippo Inzaghi.
