Roma edged out Cesena by a solitary goal last weekend. The Giallorossi struggled to break Cesena down but had their stars to thank for Maximiliano Pellegrino’s own goal in the 89th minute of the game. Pellegrino unwittingly put the ball into his own net while attempting to clear Fabio Simplicio’s effort on goal. Cesena were Roma’s equals for most of the game and the Giallorossi faithful had to be content with watching long range efforts from their side on Francesco Antonioli’s goal.
Cagliari won 3-1 against Palermo last weekend. The Sardinians took the lead midway through the first half when Alessando Matri scored from the rebound after Nene’s effort had struck the woodwork. Early in the second half, Cagliari went 2-0 up when Palermo medio Antonio Nocerino put Daniele Conti’s cross past his own keeper.
Javier Pastore pulled one back for Palermo with a well taken effort but Cagliari’s two goal advantage was restored in the 54th minute by Davide Biondini. The win was Cagliari’s seventh of the season and took the Rossoblu to 26 points from 20 games.
Cagliari crushed Roma 5-1 when the two sides met in Sardinia in September earlier this season. The Rossoblu rode on the back of a brace from Matri to defeat Roma, who ended the fixture with ten men following the early dismissal of defender Nicolas Burdisso. Daniele de Rossi’s scored Roma’s only goal of the game that day.

Roma lost 1-0 to title rivals Inter Milan in the finals of the Coppa Italia on Wednesday night. It was a disappointing night for the Giallorossi, especially given that they were playing in their own stadium. Roma also had talisman Francesco Totti sent off in the dying minutes of the final for a foul on Inter’s Mario Balotelli.
Cagliari drew for the third straight league game when their fixture against Udinese ended in a 2-2 scoreline. Cagliari took the lead through Andrea Lazzari but Udinese hit back through two goals in as many minutes from Antonio Di Natale and Alexis Sanchez. However Jeda equalised shortly before the hour mark as the two teams settled for a share of the spoils.
Cagliari’s previous game against Roma produced some late drama as the Sardinian outfit scored twice late in the fixture to snatch an unlikely point. Roma could have done with those two points given that they are two behind Inter in the league standings currently. Sign up today and see Roma vs Cagliari online as it happens.
