Roma went down 3-2 to Palermo last weekend, ruining their new owners’ first day at the Olimpico. The day started well for the Giallorossi as they took the lead through Francesco Totti in the 20th minute. The veteran forward converted a penalty that had been earned by Roma’s French forward Jeremy Menez.
Two minutes before the interval, Roma defender Nicolas Burdisso fouled Mauricio Pinilla, and the Chilean striker made no mistake from twelve yards out as he brought Palermo back on level terms. Abel Hernandez then struck twice for the visitors in the space of six second half minutes, ensuring that Mirko Vucinic’s late goal would be nothing but mere consolation for Roma.
Roma also lost the first leg of their Coppa Italia semifinal to Inter Milan on Tuesday night. A wonder goal from Inter’s Dejan Stankovic on the stroke of half time sealed Roma’s fate as they went down 1-0 to the Nerazzurri.
Chievo beat Bologna 2-0 in their last Serie A match. The Flying Donkeys took the lead through Kevin Constant, who fired into the roof of the net following Emiliano Viviano’s failure to hold on to Sergio Pellissier’s fierce left footed effort. Michele Marcolini made sure of all three points in the 83rd minute, lobbing from distance after seeing Viviano off his line. The win was only the Flying Donkeys’ fifth home league win of the season.
