Roma rode on the back of a brace from Francesco Totti to down Udinese last Saturday at Stadio Friuli. The Giallorossi went ahead close to the hour mark through a penalty from Francesco Totti, who cheekily chipped home from twelve yards out after David Pizarro was adjudged to have been fouled by Udinese’s Giampiero Pinzi.
Late in the game, Udinese snatched an equaliser when Antonio Di Natale latched on to Bernardo Corradi’s headed pass and slotted in from seven yards out. The Bianconeri then again managed to get the ball into the back of the net, only for the referee to disallow it for handball.
However Totti dealt the telling blow with the last kick of the game. A Roma throw in saw the ball go to John Arne Riise and the Norwegian full back pulled it back into the area for the unmarked Totti, who flicked home from close range to give Roma a 2-1 win.
Palermo squandered a 2-0 lead in dramatic circumstances against Cesena last weekend as they drew 2-2. First half efforts from Jasmin Kurtic and Mauricio Pinilla seemed to have done enough to give the Rosanero all three points, but the home side choked in second half stoppage time as Cesena netted twice to stun the home fans as well as returning coach Delio Rossi.
