A narrow 1-0 win away in Lithuania helped lift some pressure off coach Raymond Domenech as France closed down the gap in the race for the second place to just two points. Franck Ribery scored the only goal of the match late in the second half to help France to only its second win of the qualifying campaign.

Meanwhile Lithuania coach Jose Couceiro will be hoping for an improved performance from his side that came very close to pulling off an upset on Saturday. Though they were pegged back for most of the game, Lithuania put up a pretty good defensive display to hold out until the 68th minute before Ribery slotted home the winner.
