Spain currently lead Group 5 with a 100% win record. They have 12 points from four games, and have scored a total of ten goals. Vicente Del Bosque’s men have conceded only one goal so far- in their last qualifier against Belgium, which they won 2-1.
Star striker David Villa, who already has five goals to his name, is struggling with a knee problem. If Villa is not fit, Spain will look up to his partner, the prolific Fernando Torres, for inspiration. There are also injury concerns regarding midfield playmaker Xavi, defender Gerard Pique and Valencia’s David Silva. Barcelona’s Andres Iniesta is a definite absentee after pulling a muscle in his right thigh in his side’s 6-0 win over Malaga.
Turkey beat Bosnia 2-1 in their last qualifier, with Arda Turan and Mevlut Erdinc scoring for Fatih Terim’s men. Turkey are second in Group 5, with eight points from their four games. They are yet to be beaten in the group, but could concede second spot to Belgium or Bosnia should they lose on Saturday.
Fatih Terim’s European semi finalists have their own injury problems too. Key defenders Cervet Setin and Gokhan Zan have not travelled with the squad to Spain, and Gokhan Gonul, Gokhan Unal and Hamit Alintop are short on match fitness.
The winner of this clash will hold the upper hand going into the return fixture at the Ali Sami Yen Stadium a few days later. Can La Furia Roja keep up their perfect record in qualifying? Watch Spain v Turkey live to find out!!!
