With four games left in the CONCACAF final round which contains six teams, The USA will be pushing hard to try and secure one of the three berths that will allow automatic qualification through to the World Cup in South Africa in 2010. See how they get on in their match against El Salvador this coming Sunday by joining us here at oleolefootball.watchlive.net and watching the live streams in all their glory.
The USA currently sit in third position in the group of six at the moment, which is good enough for automatic qualification. But things are not so clear cut, as four out of the six teams all have a realistic chance of going through. At this point we should add that the team that finishes fourth will be involved in a playoff against a team from the South American section.
As things stand, Costa Rica lead the way with twelve points, surprisingly Honduras sit above the USA on goal difference, while group favourites Mexico are in forth on nine points. Each team has played six games so far. In their last game, the Americans lost 2-1 to Mexico and that result really set the cat amongst the pigeons in terms of points and positions. It wasn’t the result they were looking for, so they will look to atone for the misdemeanour by putting El Salvador to the sword.
For their part, El Salvador looked to have missed the boat in terms of both automatic and playoff qualification berths. They sit in fifth position in the group on five points, the same as bottom side Trinidad and Tobago. In their last game they lost 1-0 away in Trinidad.
