1992 European champions Denmark meet Japan in a winner takes all contest in Group E at the Royal Bakofeng Stadium in Rustenburg on Thursday. Catch live streaming from the Denmark vs Japan game by signing up with Ole Ole Football today.
The Danes knocked Cameroon out with a 2-1 win over the Indomitable Lions in their last game. They fell behind when Pierre Webo took advantage of an absolutely terrible pass from midfielder Christian Poulsen and set up Lions skipper Samuel Eto’o for the opener. Denmark had to wait for a while for the equaliser, which came when Simon Kjaer’s superb long range pass found winger Dennis Rommedahl, whose cross into the box was converted by Arsenal’s Nicklas Bendtner.
Rommedahl, who assisted the first goal, turned scorer for the winner shortly after the hour mark. Denmark had plenty of nervy moments towards the end as Achille Emana forced a save from Thomas Sorensen and Vincent Aboubakar had his effort blocked by midfielder Poulsen. Danish coach Morten Olsen was not pleased with his side’s display, saying that they had made plenty of “elementary errors”. Defender Daniel Agger was equally scathing in his comments, saying that it was the worst Denmark had played in recent history.
Japan remained in contention for a spot in the Round of 16 despite losing 1-0 to the Netherlands in their last fixture. Japanese keeper Eiji Kawashima joined the growing list of stoppers having problems with the Jabulani ball as he could only deflect a powerful effort from Dutch midfielder Wesley Sneijder into his own net.
While Denmark need to win this fixture, a draw will also do for the Japanese. Both Denmark and Japan have three points from two games, but the latter have a zero goal difference in comparison to the former’s minus one. So should the game end in a draw, Japan will progress to the round of 16 at the expense of the Danes, regardless of what happens in the Cameroon-Holland fixture.
Will Denmark be able to make it to the knockout stages of the 2010 World Cup? See Denmark vs Japan live online with Ole Ole Football and find out.
