South Korea were brought down to earth by Argentina in their second Group B game. The Koreans went into the game full of confidence following a 2-0 win over Greece, but were thrashed 4-1 by the Albicelestes. The scoreline was a tad harsh on the Koreans, for whom Yeom Ki-hun wasted a great opportunity to equalise just before the hour mark. At that stage Argentina were leading 2-1, but Korea were still very much in the reckoning for a point.

This will be Nigeria’s first ever World Cup game against Asian opposition. South Korea have however played African teams before at the World Cup- they beat Togo 2-0 at the 2006 World Cup in Germany. However African nations have traditionally had a poor record against their Asian counterparts at the World Cup, only winning one out of eight fixtures.
