North Korea will look to recover from the thrashing they received at the hands of Portugal when they take on Sven Goran Eriksson’s Ivory Coast in their final group game in Nelspruit on Friday. North Korea held their own against Portugal for about fifty minutes. The two sides were only separated by a Raul Meireles goal at that point, but once Simao scored Portugal’s second, the floodgates opened. North Korea conceded two in quick succession and then let in another three in the last ten minutes as Portugal crushed them 7-0. It also ended any hopes that the Koreans had harboured of making it to the round of 16.

Didier Drogba scored Ivory Coast’s only goal of the game, heading a Yaya Toure cross past Brazil keeper Julio Cesar eleven minutes from time.

Ivory Coast have only one point from two fixtures and are expected to go for goals from the beginning of the game against North Korea. Portugal have a goal difference of plus seven, while the Ivorians are currently on minus two. That not only means that Brazil and Ivory Coast must win their respective games for the Ivorians to progress, but the combined margin of victory for both teams should at least be nine goals. North Korea were pretty well organised against Brazil and it is quite unlikely that another team will get to fire seven past them like Portugal did.
