Watch Live Football. The History Of Online Streaming

Conventionally two formats amely, unicast address (single sender-single receiver) or anycast address (single sender-nearest network receiver), are used to transmit data over the Internet. During a live broadcast, both these formats need to work simultaneously so as to trasmit a signal to users' computers.

That would mean millions of signals need to be generated when a particularly hot football game is in progress. Naturally this wuld jam the system and cause bloackage and interruptions, which are enough to spoil any football fan's mood.

In order to overcome this problem, a system called as multicasting came into effect. Under this system, there is a single sender, who sends out the signal that can be tapped at the same time by multiple users so as to ensure uninterrupted transmission.

The Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) supports all formats including multicasting thus enabling online streaming to proceed in a smooth manner.

The Birth of Multicasting

A Stanford University graduate student named Steve Deering conceived the concept of multicasting in the late 1980s. His doctorate dissertation titled, "Multicast Routing in a Datagram Network," forms the basis of the multicasting technology that is very much a part of Internet activities today.

His thesis touched on two protocols, namely IGMP (Internet Group Message Protocol) and DVMRP (Distance Vector Multicast Routing Protocol) that provided a solution used for seamless multicasting.

The problem of signal transmission was solved thanks to the concept of multicasting, but the question remained as to how the system could be practically implemented to ensure worldwide success. This question was answered by the implementation of the Multicast Backbone or MBone.

Traditionally Internet routers used in the 1990s supported unicast address. In order to get them to adapt to multicasting technology, several servers equipped with multicast routers (Mrouters) were connected in a mesh topology by placing them at specific locations in 1992. Typically a MBone comprises of a mix of Sun Sparc UNIX routers and Cisco routers.

These days multicasting protocol has been significantly refined and uses switches, data-plane processing, aging, timeouts, sizing RAM tables, CAM tables, and decoding protocols, etc so as to enable seamless transmission of Live pictures. That is a nutshell is how football fans worldwide can get their favorite matches on their screens live as the action happens.

Watch Live FA Cup

The FA Cup is the longest running and largest domestic competition in the English Football calendar. The FA Cup final has proved to be a thrilling event year after year with tense finishes and emotional farewells of top players and managers.

The FA Cup was established in 1871 and is the brain child of FA honorary secretary, Mr. Charles Allcock, who felt there was a need for a comprehensive competition for all clubs in England no matter how small or big thy might be. The only requirement to compete in the Cup was that the club had to belong to the Football Association.

The maiden FA Cup had 15 teams competing for the prestigious crown. It was won by the Wanderers, who defeated the Royal Engineers 1-0 in the finals. Some 2000 people watched the maiden final played at the Kensington Oval.

The FA Cup took a turn for the better when it had its own stadium in the form of the Wembley stadium, which was inaugurated by the Duke of York later to become King George the VI in 1922. Excepting for the war years, the FA Cup final has been a permanent fixture at the Wembley stadium until 2000. That year a new stadium was conceived, which was finally built last year.

The first FA Cup final at the new Wembley Stadium was played between Manchester United and Chelsea. The latter emerged winners.

Ole Ole Football provides comprehensive coverage of the FA Cup Live right here including all the news, views and comments.

Watch Live Carling Cup

The Carling Cup is a unique competition held in the English Football calendar that provides an opportunity for all football teams in the UK to compete on an even keel. Conceived by Allan Hardaker in 1960, Carling Cup has proved to be a lucrative competition for small teams from lower leagues that can be assured of large windfalls should they manage to progress beyond the initial rounds.

The Carling Cup competition is not without controversy. The top six Premier League teams refused to compete in the Cup saying the strain of playing extra matches with lower league teams was not worth the effort. But these matters were soon put aside when Rotherham United managed to get to the final of the first Carling Cup where they lost to Aston Villa.

Second division Norwich City caused even more upsets in the following year when they clinched the Carling Cup itself. By 1965 the League tournament was really gaining popularity and its stature was boosted by the entry of Chelsea, who were eventually beaten by Leicester City that year.

The 1967 Carling Cup final marked a turning point for the tournament with an unprecedented 90,000 people watching the game at the Wembley Stadium. In the initial years the biggest upset came when Swindon Town beat Arsenal 3-1.

Today the Carling Cup has become a big tournament and is considered equal to the FA Cup in importance. Top teams consider it as a consolation prize and a chance to collect some silverware at the end of the year. You can use your Ole Ole membership to Watch Live Carling Cup matches live online on your PC.
